Staying at the Lodges

Our two lodges operate as club houses and run as a co-operative venture of; the people staying there, the Cook/Custodian, the Lodge Leader and the Committee. The club's facilities, high standard of accommodation and catering can only be provided at reasonable rates because members assist with the running of the lodges during their stay. Each Lodge can sleep 32 members, a cook and ski instructor.

LODGE LEADER: The person immediately responsible for the smooth operation of the lodge over any given period is the Lodge Leader, appointed by the Committee to oversee members during their stay, see that duties are carried out, co-operate with the Cook/Custodian, and furnish a written report of the period to the Committee.

The Lodge Leader is a member on holiday too, so please support that person at all times and carry out your assigned tasks to look after our buildings during your stay, efficiently and with good grace.

COOK/CUSTODIAN: Each lodge has an in-house cook, who makes breakfast and dinner, and lunch on bad weather days, does some cleaning, and is helped by members. Cooks day off is Wednesday when members look after themselves. Please introduce yourself to the Cook, assist willingly and be friendly.

MEALS TIMES:

Breakfast:   Whakapapa: 7.15 am
Turoa: 7.00 am
Lunch: light lunch on bad weather days only
members may make lunch from left-overs to take skiing
Afternoon tea: on return from skiing
Dinner: 7.00 pm ish

For members arriving on Friday evening, dinner is available ONLY if $5 is prepaid on the Booking Form.

For a fee of $20, members may invite a guest who is not staying in the Lodge for dinner, with the prior approval of the Lodge Leader and the Cook.

SNACKS: The club provides tea, coffee, milk, cordial, biscuits, bread and cheese, but not alcohol and softdrinks. Each Lodge has a bar area, separate from the kitchen for members use. Please be careful not to drink or eat other member's food and drink which may be stored there. Use only club refreshments or what you bring yourself. Parents, please inform your children!

DUTIES: Necessary tasks are assigned to each person. Look for your name on the duty list on the notice board by the Kitchen. Carry out your task willingly at the time recommended. Tick when completed.

When staying at Whakapapa please take a rubbish bag down with you when you go down the track. Full rubbish bags at the lodge front door need to go to the bins at the Top of the Bruce drop off zone.

LINEN FOR EACH PERSON: 3 ITEMS

Whakapapa:

  1. Sleeping bag OR sheets (Duvet provided)
  2. Pillow case
  3. Towel

Turoa:

  1. Sleeping bag OR Sheets + Duvet/blankets
  2. Pillow case
  3. Towel

If you forget your linen, please ask the Cook for sheets/pillowcase for your bed.

THE FRONT DOOR LOCK CODE: Make sure that you know the Door Lock Code for your lodge arrival - load in mobile phone. The current door code is listed on the Booking Form Confirmation in the Lower Right corner. Bring a torch as it is not easy to see the door lock numbers at night.

BOOKING CONFIRMATION: Take your Confirmed Booking form with you, as Bookings made through the Booking Officer have priority over any late bookings made at the lodge. Sleep in the bunkroom allocated to you, on the bunk list at the lodge. You will find this on the notice board in the entrance foyer, and on the notice board by the Kitchen upstairs. Do not change the bunklist, which is kept updated by the booking officer. No one may stay at the lodge unless their name is on the bunklist. A Late Booking may be made at the lodge, through the Cook, but a Late Booking form must be filled in and the bunknights paid for, before the member may stay. The Cook will check with the Booking Officer as to whether the member is financial, and whether a bunk is available. Junior Members (under 18) and Guests, must have a senior sponsor who is a member and who is fully responsible for their behaviour while they are at the Lodge.

BEHAVIOUR IN THE LODGES: Co-operative behaviour and regard for others is expected at all times. The contents and furniture belong to us all, and need to be valued, used appropriately, and treated with care. Please introduce guests or new members to the facilities and explain the expected behaviour in the various areas.

1. Upstairs: Living, dining, kitchen and bar. Is an area we all use, please be mindful of others, share the space available, keep it tidy and clean, keep your personal belongings with you, and take them with you when you leave. The couches are for all to sit on and not for a few to lie on.

2. Downstairs:
a) Gamesroom:
Table tennis, Pool tables, stereo, and seating areas are provided for all. Sensible and responsible behaviour is necessary! Younger members need supervision, and parents are asked to please educate their children in sensible use of the equipment, and roster themselves to supervise. The Lodge Leader should be notified immediately of any problems or breakages.
b) Bunkroom wing: Is a quiet zone.
Peaceful behaviour and quiet voices are desirable at any time. Please keep voices down and be as quiet as possible in the evenings, especially when arriving at the lodges at night. Drinking is not permitted in the bunkrooms, and during school holidays parents will need to supervise children's play in the bunkroom wing, which is an 'exciting' area!

DRESS STANDARD: Members are expected to be dressed in day or ski clothes upstairs, and at all meals. No pyjamas or bare feet. For dinner, tidy casual is expected. Bring your wine - leave your slippers and beanies in your bunkroom!

SHOWERS: At Whakapapa the water supply is from tanks, which are under the Bunkroom wing. Please be careful to use only the water you need. Keep showers short, and bring enough clothes so that you don't need to wash any. There is no washing machine for members at Whakapapa. Turoa is on town supply. In both lodges the hot water capacity is not unlimited!!

DRYING ROOM: Both lodges have a drying room for your wet gear. Please arrange your gear tidily and remove as soon as it is dry. Please take care that you remove only your belonging, and that the ski boots are yours! Naming your gear is useful.

TELEPHONE: The Lodges have a telephone for local calls, but are toll barred. Personal computers must not be connected to the phone line.

TELEVISION: By common consent there is no TV.

SMOKING: Smoking is not permitted inside either lodge

ILLEGAL DRUGS: Illegal drugs are not permitted in lodges.
